Not so hard

Originally, Pachycephalosaurus was thought to have used its thick skull to head-butt rivals in courtship displays, like some sheep do. However, a close inspection of its head reveals none of the scar tissue that head-butting would cause. Some palaeontologists also claim that although the dinosaur's skull is thick, it's not actually that hard and would break under this kind of impact. In fact, Pachycephalosaurus uses its head to butt predators or rivals from the side, in much the same way as Homalocephale.
