Once we've planned properly, and we've got ourselves and our equipment to outcrops that match the criteria above, and once we have developed a concept of their geological context, what then? Simply put, we drop our eyes and start searching for bone weathering out of the rock.2 If we're lucky and/or have a good eye, we'll spot something. Some collectors fare better than others, and a "feel" borne of experience, is surely involved in finding bone, as well as an experienced eye and dumb luck (Figure 1.9).
